RSF calls on EU countries to act against online harassment of female journalists

Calling on European countries to take action to tackle online harassment of female journalists, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is calling for the bloc’s 27 member states to “transpose into national law” the EU directive on violence against women. Insults, threats, falsified videos… “many female journalists are victims of online harassment around the world, especially those dealing with gender issues or sexual and sexist violence,” RSF stressed in a statement published on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. “These repeated and often anonymous attacks are aimed at depriving women of their credibility, intimidating them and forcing them to leave their work,” the NGO underlined.
