Rubio and Macron meet in Paris to discuss Iran and War in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron received on Thursday (17) the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, at the Elisha Presidential Palace in Paris.

The meeting takes place at a time when the White House envoy Steve Witkoff, and Ukrainian and British diplomats are also in town for conversations with French authorities.

High level diplomacy reflects Europe’s growing concern with US government proposals for Moscow, after failure, so far, Trump’s efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has lasted three years.

US authorities should also discuss nuclear negotiations with Iran during the visit to Paris.

The Russian government said on Thursday that the meeting between the US, Ukraine, and European countries in Paris would be an opportunity for the American special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to inform them about the current situation of the search for a peace agreement in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin and Witkoff had a long conversation last week.
