Rufus, Amazon’s personal shopper arrives (based on AI)

Artificial intelligence also comes to the rescue during shopping: it is Amazon, in fact, ad announce the debut also in Italy of Rufusthe chatbot designed to offer support during purchases in its e-commerce.

This is a real one personal shopper powered by generative AI able to answer user questions, suggest items to purchase, make product comparisons, provide recommendations and more.

Although it is not yet perfectly precise, it generates responses based on relevant information from Amazon.it and other online sources, with the aim of helping customers make more conscious and informed purchasing choices: «At Amazon, for over 25 years , let’s make it broad use of artificial intelligence to improve our customers’ experience. Personalized suggestions for purchases on Amazon, the optimization of the order processing process within warehouses and the conversational capabilities of Alexa are just some of the innovations supported by AI” explains the Amazon team in the page dedicated to the news and continues «We will continue to improve our AI models and refine the responses to make Rufus increasingly useful over time. Customers are encouraged to provide feedback by rating responses with a thumbs up or down, and also have the option to provide free comments.”

From general searches to more specific questions such as: “What should I buy to go on a mountain excursion?”, or: “What tools do I need to prepare a cake?” and “What is a suitable gift for a teacher?”, the chatbot supports the discovery of the most suitable products to meet customer needs.

At the moment available only for some customers who update the Amazon app to the latest version, Rufus will progressively arrive to other users in Italy over the next few weeks. However, those involved in the testing phase will be able to access the chatbot by tapping the icon in the lower right corner of the app and selecting suggested questions or typing targeted requests; just swipe downwards to close the conversation with the assistant and return to traditional search mode.
