Rumo projects investment of up to R$4.5 billion to build 1st stretch of railroad in MT

Rumo predicted this Thursday (3rd) investments of between 4 billion and 4.5 billion reais for the construction of the first stretch of railroad in Mato Grosso that will connect the Rondonópolis road-rail terminal to Cuiabá and Lucas do Rio Verde.

Rumo said that its board of directors authorized the start of the stretch, referring to the 211 km stretch that connects Rondonópolis to the city of Campo Verde, with the expectation of starting operation in the first quarter of 2026.

The concession operator was the only one to submit a proposal to take over the project, for 45 years, in competition in September 2021. The railroad, which will interconnect an important grain and oilseed producing area in Mato Grosso, will allow the connection of the Lucas stretch of the Rio Verde to the port of Santos – Rumo is already the operator of the section between Rondonópolis and Santos.

Rumo also said that it expects installed capacity at the Campo Verde Terminal of 10 million to 30 million useful tons per year.

The company said the new estimates “fully supersede the projections initially presented for the project” in October 2021.
