Microsoft today not only announced the release of Windows 10 May 2021 Update, but also officially confirmed rumors that appeared in early May about the cancellation of its fundamentally new “lightweight” operating system Windows 10X.

Microsoft has confirmed that instead of releasing Windows 10X as a standalone OS, it will add key features of Windows 10X to standard Windows 10, as well as its other products.
Microsoft highlighted that improved voice typing, a redesigned on-screen keyboard with optimized key sizes, sounds, colors and animations, and app container technology are some of the Windows 10X features already available in a fresh test build of Windows 10 Insider.
Microsoft explained:
After studying and talking with customers for a year, we realized that Windows 10X technologies can be useful in many ways and serve more customers than we originally thought. We have come to the conclusion that 10X technology should not be limited to just a small subset of customers. ”
Recall that the Windows 10X platform was originally supposed to go to the final stage of RTM (Release To Manufacturers) in the fall of 2020. However, then the release of Windows 10X was postponed and in the summer of 2020 it was reported that we would not see this platform until April-May 2021.
A single-screen version of Windows 10X was expected to debut initially, and a dual-screen version of Windows 10X was expected to be available at a later date.
