TV presenter and drag queen RuPaul 63, recalled a meeting he had with supermodel Naomi Campbell, 53, around 30 years ago.
The situation occurred when he began to rise in his career and become internationally famous as a drag queen and singer.
Directly invited, according to him, by Gianni Versace to a luxury brand Versace fashion show in Milan, Italy, he was able to get close to the supermodels of the time and be photographed with them.
“I took a photo with the models, wearing a voluminous blonde wig and a tight little dress. In the photo, Naomi Campbell is at my feet, Christy Turlington is looking up in my direction, and I am smiling, beaming, as if I never doubted that this moment would come,” she says.
RuPaul also says that he had seen Naomi Campbell previously, but from afar, at a Versace fashion show for which he managed to get tickets at the last minute and ended up in the last places.
“The following fall, I was in Milan again for the Versace show. No longer in the back seats with last-minute tickets, but rather to perform at the after-party, invited by Gianni Versace.”
The photo with the supermodels of the time represented, as he says, a sign for the presenter that he was following the right path in his career.
This and other stories of RuPaul's life towards stardom were told by him in his new biography, released in Brazil this month by Intrinsic publisher . The work was published simultaneously in the United States.
Elsewhere, he also talks about how unpleasant his first meeting with Madonna was.
The book, which became a bestseller on Amazon already on pre-order at the end of last year, also explores RuPaul's relationship with his family, his drug addiction, his relationship with sex, his body and romances, as well as of his determination to seek fame.
The reader is presented with moments from the first 40 years of the presenter's life, before he created the Emmy-winning series “RuPaul's Drag Race”.
