For more than 10 years there have been rumors about a remake or possible sequel to the hit movie by Gladiator, although the subject has never been confirmed or even formally discussed. However, Russell Crowe seems to have a possible successor in mind.
The New Zealand actor commented that he would like to see Chris Hemsworth in the title role if a new movie is made. The news comes as Crowe and the muscular Australian work together on the film. Thor: Love and Thunder.
Both Hemsworth and Crowe are filming the fourth installment of the god of thunder off the shores of Australia alongside Taika Waititi, Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson. So, according to different reports, both actors have been talking about other projects together.
A source close to the Australian stated that it was Elsa Pataky, his wife, who suggested the idea of Hemsworth as the protagonist of a sequel to Gladiator or even a new version in which he plays Máximo Décimo Meridio, a character that catapulted Crowe’s career.
Although so far they are just rumors and neither actor has confirmed anything, recently Connie Nielsen, who played Lucilla in the famous Roman film, spoke about a possible remake of the film with Ridley Scott as director for the second time.
I know you want to do one or two more movies first and then maybe consider making a new ‘Gladiator’, but I’m not sure what you think right now. It would be amazing, obviously, and I know a lot of people want to see history again.
