Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova said on Friday that 783 cases of the Omicron variant had been reported in Russia and that an increase in the number of cases was expected in the near future.
She added that 53% of cases of the Omicron variant have been recorded in Moscow, while she attributed the percentage to the fact that “the area of the capital traditionally receives the first blow as it is a major transport hub”.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said today that “Omicron is beginning to dominate among coronavirus patients and this is a sign that we will see a serious increase in morbidity in the coming days.”
Golikova did not rule out the possibility that the Omicron variant would most likely displace the Delta variant in Russia, as is the case in other countries.
The number of Omicron cases in Russia has more than doubled in three days.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister also said that based on the analysis of the data of the consumer health regulator (Rospotrebnadzor), about 300,000 people who were positive for coronavirus, after the antibody tests they did not go to the doctor.
