The Russian government accused European countries on Saturday (10) to make contradictory and conflicting statements.
The accusation came after European leaders support a US plan for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine and threaten Russia with “massive” sanctions if she did not fulfill.
“We have heard many contradictory statements from Europe. Usually, they are conflicting in nature, rather than trying to revive our relationships.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
President Vladimir Putin “said repeatedly that he is ready for contacts with any leaders,” said Peskov. “And he is open to interaction, dialogue with them, as they are ready.”
Ukraine and European leaders agreed on Saturday (10) that an unconditional 30-day truce is expected to begin on Monday (12), with the support of US President Donald Trump.
“Therefore, all of us here, along with the US, we are challenging Putin. If he takes peace seriously, then he has a chance to demonstrate it,” said British Prime Minister Keir Stmerer.
Russia has long claimed to be open to negotiations, accusing Kiev of closing this option by adopting a 2022 decree that excludes any negotiation with Putin.
On Friday (9), Peskov was quoted saying that Russia supported the implementation of a 30-day ceasefire, but only with the proper consideration of “a large number of nuances.”
Speaking to ABC News, transmitted on Saturday, the spokesman suggested that Western military assistance to Ukraine would have to cease so that a ceasefire could happen. “Otherwise, it would be an advantage for Ukraine,” he said.
Russia believes to have an advantage on the battlefield and says it is concerned that Ukraine can use a 30 -day war break to rest their strength, mobilize more men and get more western weapons.
