Russia: Alexei Navalny accuses Russian prison authorities of “sleep deprivation”

The imprisoned critic of the Kremlin Alexei Navalny He said in a statement to Russia’s security services that he was being held in solitary confinement, a practice he likened to torture.

The detainees “deprive me of sleep, it is a de facto recourse to torture through sleep deprivation”, he writes, explaining that they wake him “eight times in the night”.

Earlier today, one of his lawyers stated that Navalny has been suffering from health problems for weeks in prison.

In particular, he spoke of acute back pain, while practically unable to use one of his legs.

“In my opinion, his health is in poor condition, as he is experiencing severe pain in his waist and right leg,” lawyer Olga Mikhailova explained, speaking to Rain TV.

“One of his legs is practically not working.”

According to her, the appeals of his lawyers in order to give him the necessary medical care have been ignored for 4 weeks.

At the same time, his wife Alexei Navalny today demanded his immediate release, so that he could receive care from doctors he trusts.

In an Instagram post, Julia Navalnaya described what was happening to her husband as personal revenge for his opposition activities, stressing that this must stop.
