Russian authorities and the media today mock the “invasion date” of January 16 announced by the Western media, which cited sources in the US intelligence services.
“Request to the American and British media (…), announce the schedule of our ‘invasions’ for next year, I would like to plan a vacation,” Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for Russian diplomacy, told the Telegram.
Last week, Anglo-Saxon media outlets leaked information from anonymous sources within the US government and intelligence services that Russia may have launched an operation against Ukraine today, January 16.
The sources said, however, that the mention of a specific date may have been part of a Russian disinformation effort.
Anglo-Saxon newspapers had gone even further, reporting specific times for the invasion overnight.
“The night passed as usual. We slept peacefully. In the morning we started the day calmly and professionally,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov commented stoically.
Asked about possible contacts with foreign countries during the night, he replied: “We are not used to coming in contact with foreign countries at night.”
“I would not say that this amuses us, but it certainly leaves us deeply embarrassed,” said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
