Russia and Ukraine fail to reach agreement, attacks in Mariupol and more than 10 March

Talks between Russia and Ukraine end with no ceasefire agreement and different versions of bombing in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol are among the highlights of March 10, 2022.

meeting without agreement

The meeting between Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers to discuss the possibility of a 24-hour ceasefire ended with no agreement. Russia’s war against Ukraine has entered its third week and the most intense conflicts are concentrated in the city of Mariupol, where the Russians say they have taken some control.

Russia wants “neutral” Ukraine

After the meeting, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that Russia has not committed itself to the humanitarian corridor in the city of Mariupol. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said that there are no plans to attack other countries and reiterated: “We do not want the militarization of Ukraine, we want Ukraine to be neutral.”

Bombing in Mariupol

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks on the hospital in Mariupol, while the Russians claim that the news about the bombing is false. Meanwhile, the battles in Mariupol continue.

The Russian Defense Ministry, through the Russian agency Tass, said it had taken some control of the city and that 2,911 Ukrainian military installations had already been destroyed since the start of the war. Russian losses may have exceeded 6,000 troops.

Inflation

Projections for Brazilian inflation this year have already reached 7%, which represents double the center of the target for this year. The number comes because of the rise in oil and food, caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine.

There are analyzes that expect a rise of up to 25% in dollar prices of raw materials in 2022, which worsens inflation and increases the effort to contain prices. The market sees the basic interest rate, now at 10.75% per year, reaching above 13% at the end of the high cycle, and could reach 14%.

Covid-19 in Brazil

Brazil recorded 54,906 cases of Covid-19 and 669 deaths from the disease in the last 24 hours, according to data from Conass (National Council of Health Secretaries). As a result, the moving average of cases, which considers the average of the last seven days, grew for the third day in a row and reached 50,158 records. Brazil had an index below 50,000 since March 3.
