Russia is working with the US in terms of escalating violence in Syria, the Russian agency TASS, citing Russian ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia, quoted the Russian agency. More than 1,000 people have been killed in recent days in clashes between former President Bashar al -Assad’s supporters and the new, Islamist government’s security services, mainly in the western, coastal provinces. Moscow supported Assad, who fled to Russia in December after his overthrow. Russia also has two military bases in the areas where conflicts are held. When asked by reporters, before the UN Security Council meeting if Moscow is working with Washington on the Syrian issue, Nebenzia responded “yes”. The Kremlin has described the situation in Syria as “alarming” and called for bloodshed to end. Source: RES
