Russia announces it will withdraw diplomats from Ukraine

Russia took the decision on Tuesday (22) to withdraw its diplomatic team from Ukraine, according to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Our first priority is to take care of Russian diplomats and staff at the Embassy and Consulates General. To protect their lives and safety, the Russian leadership has decided to evacuate personnel from Russian missions in Ukraine, which will be implemented in the very near future,” it said in a statement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday recognized the independence of two Ukrainian breakaway areas: the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic.

Putin asked the Federal Assembly to support the decision and then ratify the treaties of friendship and mutual assistance with both republics.

Before signing the agreement, Putin reaffirmed that the situation is complicated in eastern Ukraine and that the country is part of Russian history.

“It is important to understand that Ukraine has never had a consistent tradition of being a real nation. They started copying foreign models that were not part of their culture,” Putin said. “Let’s start with the fact that modern Ukraine was entirely created by Russia, more precisely, by the Bolsheviks, communist Russia. This process began almost immediately after the 1917 revolution,” he added.

For the Russian leader, the Eastern European country is a “US puppet” that, together with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), has turned Ukraine into a theater of war.

This Tuesday, Putin confirmed that the situation with Ukrainians is different from other post-Soviet nations. “This is because, unfortunately, the territory of this country is being used by third countries to create threats against the Russian Federation itself. That’s the only reason,” he explained.

With tension growing in the region, and the imminent threat of full-scale invasion, at least 36 countries have already asked their citizens to leave Ukrainian territory.

Brazil, USA, UK, Estonia, Israel, Latvia, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Lithuania, Kuwait, Jordan, Sweden, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Portugal , Denmark, Cyprus, Greece, Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, India, Canada, Belgium, Austria and France issued withdrawal recommendations.
