Russia-Armenia-Azerbaijan: Conversations of the Russian Defense Minister with his Armenian counterpart

Its defense ministers of Russia and Armenia spoke this morning and agreed to take measures to stabilize the situation on its borders of Armenia with Azerbaijan, the Interfax news agency reported citing the Armenian Ministry of Defense. The tensions and the hostilities flared up during last night around the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh enclave.

Russia is an ally of Armenia through the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan said he spoke with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu and the two “agreed to receive the necessary measures to stabilize the situation”. Meanwhile, according to Azeri media, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a ceasefire in the morning, which however collapsed a few minutes later, the Athens News Agency broadcasts.

The ceasefire agreement came into force at 9am. local time (08:00 Greek time), according to media reports and a img, who asked not to be named. However, Azeri media reported that the ceasefire was violated soon after.
