Russia has started serial production of new Zircon hypersonic missiles, President Vladimir Putin said this Friday (23). Experts say this type of missile is almost impossible to shoot down.
Ukraine said it had evidence that Russia fired a Zircon hypersonic missile for the first time since the start of the war, during attacks on the capital Kiev on February 7.
Experts point out that, if the device follows what Moscow says, it is a formidable weapon. Hypersonic speed makes it invulnerable to even the best Western missile defenses, such as the United States' Patriot, according to the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance (MDAA).
Russian defense industry enterprises have “in recent years” increased the production and supply of weapons “several times”, including high-precision strike weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles, tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery, air defense systems, counter-battery systems and communications and reconnaissance equipment.
According to the Russian leader, other technologies, including the introduction of artificial intelligence in the military sector, are also being developed.
He praised the “courage and valor” of the military, including those serving in what Russia calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine.
“You are true national heroes. We know it is difficult for you and we will do everything possible to help you fulfill the mission assigned to you”, he highlighted.
