Russia looks forward to continuing security talks. The statement was made by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the results of the meeting of NATO Defense Ministers.
“The military-political situation in Europe continues to deteriorate. Russia’s proposals for security guarantees, to which we have not yet received a clear response from the alliance, are intended to address this situation,” Zakharova said.
“We look forward to continuing the talks on these (security guarantees). We will insist that NATO stop its provocative enlargement policy, abandon the development of offensive weapons that pose a threat to us near our borders, and return to the order of the day.” “Alliance forces in 1997,” Zakharova said, adding that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s military forces near the Russian border would only continue to grow in the future.
Speaking to NTV, Zakharova said Western partners were now proposing alternative talks with Russia on issues they did not want to hear about a year ago. “Nobody wanted to hear. We were told that the atmosphere was not right for the Russia-NATO Council dialogue to begin,” Zakharova said.
