Russia calls emergency IAEA meeting over Zaporizhia attacks

Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, announced today that Moscow is convening an emergency meeting of the IAEA board regarding the attacks on the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant – which the Kremlin blames on Ukraine. “Russia has requested an emergency board meeting regarding the recent attacks and provocations by the armed forces of Ukraine” against the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, Ulyanov wrote in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter). According to the statute, any member state of the IAEA Board of Directors can request an extraordinary meeting. Earlier today, the Kremlin again accused Kiev of drone attacks on nuclear power plant facilities, which the Ukrainian side denies. Russian troops have occupied part of Zaporizhia, including the nuclear power plant, since the very first days of the invasion of Ukraine.
