Russia: Changes US embassy address to honor Ukrainian separatists

Moscow today changed its official address of of the United States Embassy in the Russian capital to honor its pro-Russian separatists Of Ukraine and to simultaneously denounce US support for Kyiv.

“The United States Embassy in Russia has a new official address,” the Moscow City Hall said in a statement.

The diplomatic mission is now located at No. 1 in the Donetsk People’s Republic Square, named after one of the two breakaway regions of Ukrainian Donbass, whose independence Russia recognized in February, shortly before the attack on Ukraine.

This name, as reported by APE-MPE, was given to a hitherto anonymous intersection, attached to the embassy. The names of the streets that frame the diplomatic mission do not change.

This new official address has been selected following a poll conducted on the Internet from the Moscow authorities and in which 278,684 people participated, according to an announcement by the city hall.

This move brings to mind one a similar measure taken by the United States. In 2018, a section of the boulevard where the Russian embassy in Washington is located was named “Boris Nemtsov Square” after the Russian opposition leader who was assassinated in 2015 next to the Kremlin.
