The Central Bank of Russia said in a statement that residents of the country and creditors of countries that have not adopted sanctions against the Kremlin will be able to receive payments linked to Russian sovereign debt, but only in rubles.
“Special permissions”, however, may be granted for the payment of bonds in the currency in which the debt was issued.
Payments to creditors from countries that have adopted sanctions against Russia will be classified as type “C”, that is, they will be at the mercy of the Russian Central Bank’s decision.
According to the law passed last Saturday (5th) that establishes the temporary payment regime for Russian debt, individuals and entities in the country – including the Federation itself – will be able to fulfill obligations with creditors on the list of “non-friendly nations” in an amount that must not exceed 10 million rubles per month – or the equivalent of this amount in foreign currency.
