Russia cuts off electricity supply to Finland from tomorrow due to unpaid bills

THE Russia will suspend deliveries from tomorrow Saturday, May 14th electric power in Finlanddue to unpaid debts, announced today the supplier company RAO Nordic Oy, which is wholly owned by the Russian company InterRAO.

Helsinki-based RAO Nordic Oy has not received any payments for its electricity supply to Finland from May 6as it stated in a relevant announcement, referring to “lack of means” for the payment of the energy imported from Russia.

«We are therefore obliged to suspend the import of electricity from 14 May“, Said the provider.

«This is an emergency that occurs for the first time in over 20 years (.). We hope that the situation will improve soon and deliveries from Russia will resumeHe added.

RAO Nordic, o principal Russia’s importer of electricity to the Scandinavian markets has been active in the European Union since 2002, AFP reports.

It is reminded that Finnish president, prime minister say on Thursday in favor of their country’s NATO membershipclarifying that the official decision will be announced on Sunday.

Finland’s NATO membership would be “safe” The Kremlin responded to the statements, while the Foreign Ministry noted that Moscow would be obliged to “take measures, military-technical and others, to put an end to the threats to Russia’s national security.”.
