Russia: Daria Dugina buried, hailed as a ‘martyr’

Hundreds of people gathered in Moscow today for the funeral of Daria Dugina, the daughter of extremist ideologue Alexander Dugin, who supported the attack on Ukraine and was killed in a car bomb attack that Moscow blamed on Kyiv.

Daria Dugina was killed on Saturday night when the car she was driving exploded on a road near Moscow. He was 29 years old.

A journalist and political scientist, she was the daughter of Alexander Dugin, an ultra-nationalist ideologue and writer propounding an imperialist doctrine. Like her father, she strongly supported the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Less than 48 hours after the death of Daria Dugina, the Russian security services (FSB) said on Monday that they had concluded that the attack was planned and carried out by Ukrainian intelligence services. Kyiv has denied any involvement.

Today hundreds of people, mostly relatives, friends, like-minded nationalists and political officials, paid their last respects to Daria Dugina in front of her coffin, above which was hung a large black and white photograph of her.

Her father, 60-year-old Dugin, who has for years advocated the creation of a new Russian empire that would absorb the territories of countries such as Ukraine, told the crowd that his daughter had died for Russia.

“If her tragic death touched someone, she would ask him to defend the holy (Russian) Orthodoxy, the people and the motherland,” said Dugin, dressed in black and visibly moved.

“He died for Russia, in the motherland and on the front line, which is not in Ukraine, but here.”

In his condolence message, Russian President Vladimir Putin denounced “a despicable, crude crime” which “cut prematurely the life thread of Daria Dugina, a brilliant and talented person with a true Russian heart”.

The Russian president also posthumously honored her with the prestigious Order of Courage.

At today’s funeral, Konstantin Malofeyev, a close family friend and death-defying business tycoon, set the tone for many of the funerals that followed by Russian politicians, hailing the murdered woman as a martyr whose death made her even more important to Russia. to prevail against Ukraine.

“Those who fight against us do not understand that the Russian people is not only made up of those who are alive now. It is also made up of those who lived before us and those who will live after us. And we will become stronger with the blood of martyrs us. And thanks to the untimely end of our beloved Dasha (Daria), we will definitely be the victors in this war,” he declared.

The parliamentary heads of the three main pro-Kremlin parties delivered eulogies, hailing Dugina’s patriotism and promising that those who ordered and executed her murder would get what they deserved.

Leonid Slutsky, leader of the nationalist LDPR party, predicted that streets and squares would be named after Dugina and appealed for unity.

“One country, one president, one victory,” Slutsky told the crowd.

Messages of condolence were also read from a Russian-backed leader in eastern Ukraine, as well as Sergei Mironov, parliamentary head of the Just Russia party, who called for the destruction of what he called “the regime” in Kyiv.

“Victory will be the best monument for Dasha,” said Mironov.
