Russian forces launched another round of missile attacks across Ukraine on Tuesday morning, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“The enemy continues to attack Ukraine with high-precision weapons,” the social media post read.
The missiles were launched from two aircraft carriers around 7 am local time. The Ukrainians claimed that four missiles were shot down.
Air raid sirens sounded in several regions of the Eastern European country, with authorities urging residents on the messaging app Telegram to stay in shelters.
“A missile was shot down in one of the regions,” said Oleksiy Kuleba, governor of the Kiev region.
“Explosions are being heard in the Khmelnytsky region,” said Serhii Hamalii, the head of the Khmelnytsky regional military administration. He claimed that Ukrainian air defenses shot down a drone.
The Vinnytsya region “has been hit,” Governor Sergiy Borzov said on Telegram.
Vitaliy Kim, governor of Mykolaiv, has linked the barrage of missile attacks to the new commander of Russian forces in Ukraine.
“It seems that the new commander of the Russian army played ‘red alert’ too much as a child,” he joked. “It would be better if he read books.”
On Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the appointment of a new commander for what it calls a special military operation in Ukraine, according to Russian state media.
