Russia’s FSB security service claimed today that Ukrainian “saboteurs” have repeatedly blown up pylons carrying electricity from a nuclear power plant in the Kursk region, disrupting its operation.
In its statement, the FSB claims that sabotage groups targeted six high-voltage pylons connected to the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant on August 4, 9 and 12, leading to an “outage” of its operations. “In coordination with (the National Guard) measures were taken to strengthen the protection of nuclear power facilities,” he added.
Reuters was unable to verify this information.
Ukraine’s defense ministry did not respond to a request for comment on the matter.
Kursk is about 90 kilometers from the border with Ukraine and is one of several Russian cities where explosions have occurred at fuel tanks and ammunition depots since the Russian invasion about six months ago. Kyiv has not directly claimed responsibility but characterizes these events as “karma”.
