Autonomous non-profit organization “Digital Platforms” is developing a Russian application store for Android, which can replace Google Play. According to the TASS news agency, citing Vladimir Zykov (Project Director of ANO Digital Platforms), the service is called NashStore, and it will be tentatively launched on May 9.
According to Zykov, the need for a domestic app store arose due to the fact that Russians “can no longer normally use Google Play to purchase and pay for applications, and developers have lost their source of income.” It is reported that more than 700 companies are involved in the development of NashStore. Users from the Russian Federation and EAEU countries will be able to download, install, update applications, and pay for subscriptions without any problems.
This practice already exists in other countries. For example, in China, Huawei’s AppGallery was created to replace Google Play. Arseniy Shcheltsin, Director General of ANO Digital Platforms, also added that an expert council and an expanded pool of mobile application developers are currently being created for high-quality preparation of the registry. In addition, in parallel, work is underway on various payment methods that will be compatible with Russian Mir cards.
