Russia has announced the partial evacuation of communities it has occupied in the Zaporizhia region

THE Russia announced today the partial evacuation of 18 Russian-held communities in southern Ukraine’s Zaporizhia region, as Kiev says it is preparing an imminent offensive.

“In recent days, the enemy has intensified its shelling of communities in close proximity to the contact line”Yevgeny Balitsky, a regional official installed by Moscow, said on the Telegram app.

“For this reason, it was decided to first remove the children with their parents, the elderly and people with disabilities, the patients in the hospitals, from the enemy’s fire and move them inside the area”, he continued, assuring that these removals will be “temporary”.

Among those 18 communities is Enerhodar, the town where the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is located, which has been under the control of the Russian military since May 2022 and has come under fire several times, prompting fears of destruction.

Last fall, Russian occupation authorities announced similar evacuations of residents in the Kherson region, shortly before an offensive that allowed the Ukrainian army to retake the Russian-held regional capital.
