Russia has banned the sale of 61 models of modern Samsung smartphones

According to RIA Novosti, the Moscow Arbitration Court has banned Samsung from importing, selling and storing 61 models of Samsung smartphones, including the foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, into Russia.

Earlier, the Swiss company Sqwin SA filed a lawsuit demanding to ban the use of the Samsung Pay payment service in Russia, since it infringes the rights to its invention, the Electronic Payment System, protected by a Russian patent.

In July of this year, the court banned Samsung Electronics Rus Company LLC and Samsung Electronics from using products that include Samsung Rau, including importing products into Russia, as well as selling and other putting into circulation. The specific mobile models were not specified at that time, which is why the plaintiff filed a motion, demanding to list them.

On October 19, an additional decision was made, which contains a closed list of models with support for Samsung Rau. The list includes a variety of models, from the 2017 Samsung Galaxy J5 to the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. The source does not indicate the generation of smartphones, so it is possible that we are talking about the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3.

The court agreed that Samsung’s use of Rau infringed the rights to the aforementioned invention. The decision of the first instance was appealed by the defendants and has not yet entered into legal force.

The date of registration of the patent is indicated on April 23, 2019, while the date of the commencement of the patent validity is December 2, 2013. The Samsung Pay service was launched in 2015, and in Russia it appeared a year later.
