Russia currently has no plans to restart the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, the head of state nuclear power company Rosatom said today. Russian forces seized the Zaporizhia station at the start of what Russia calls the “special military operation” of the invasion of Ukraine, whose six reactors are out of service. Russian state news agency TASS reports that Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held talks with a Rosatom delegation in the western Russian city of Kaliningrad, which he said reached an understanding on safety issues at the station. TASS reports that Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev stressed the importance of the station's safety and that its re-operation is not on the agenda.
