RIA Novosti reported that a record data transfer rate of 5.6 Gbps was achieved in the pilot 5G network in Moscow. During testing, which took place in the capital’s “Dream Island” amusement park, eight Huawei smartphones were connected to a Huawei base station. All of them simultaneously received a signal at a speed of about 700 Mbps. Thus, the total peak speed reached 5.6 Gbps.
This is made possible thanks to Massive MIMO technology, which increases the cell’s throughput and capacity, as well as the coverage radius during data transmission.
The previous record was recorded in March this year. Then the telecom operator MTS achieved a speed of about 4 Gbit / s in the 5G network. By the way, MTS was the first to launch a pilot network of the fifth generation in the capital of Russia, and in May test zones with 5G coverage appeared in St. Petersburg.
