The humanitarian corridors, opened in Ukraine for the departure of citizens from the areas of greatest attack by Russian troops, are also of strategic interest to Russia.
In an interview with CNN Radio, professor of international law at UFMG, Lucas Carlos Lima, explained: “There is something strategic in humanitarian corridors, which is to make cities emptier and without resistance. There are always people who stay, but there is interest from Russia in evacuating, as happened in Syria.”
Even so, Lucas Carlos Lima highlighted that the great advantage is that people can leave zones of intense conflict. “Until then, Russia had not announced a ceasefire of Faro, which created insecurity, Mariupol tried to take convoys, but the attacks continued.”
“The promise of this Wednesday (9) is that it is a 12-hour ceasefire and there would be no bombing, we will check during the day, there are rumors that there are groups that are trying to attack, spread these initiatives, but there is no to know precisely”, he added.
The professor also pointed out that the Red Cross acts as a guarantor of the safe functioning of the humanitarian corridor and recalled: “Even groups that have decided not to leave the cities are entitled to humanitarian aid.”
For him, the level of the tragedy of refugees “is unprecedented” and countries are articulating themselves to receive these people “not only to create security situations, but also a future”.
