Russia is betting on students to solve its demographic problem – gives a 1,110 euro allowance for each birth

Authorities in the Kemerovo region of Siberia will pay a financial allowance to students who bring children to the world, according to Russian state media on Tuesday. This is the at least third corresponding regional initiative, as part of the Kremlin’s attempt to reverse Russia’s demographic sedimentation. Under the region’s government decree, the legal guardians of the eligible pupils will receive a one -off amount of 100,000 rubles (about $ 1,200), since the girl was at least 22 weeks pregnant on 1 January, according to Ria Novosti. Payments are for full -time students in general education, vocational training or higher education, provided they are recorded in a maternity hospital, according to the decree. At least eight more regions of Russia have introduced similar incentives, although it is not clear whether they also apply to minor students or only students, RIA Novosti notes.
