Russia is “preparing ground” to annex Ukrainian territories and infiltrating agents representing it in regions of Ukraine already dominated, the White House said on Tuesday (19).
Disclosing what he said was information from the US intelligence service, the US National Security Council’s top spokesman, John Kirby, told a news conference that the Russians were also preparing to establish the ruble as the default currency and force residents to apply for Russian citizenship.
Russia is also trying to take control of transmission towers, he said.
At the same time, Kirby pointed out that in the coming days, the United States will announce a new weapons package for Ukraine. This will be the 16th funding of the type approved by Congress and allocated under presidential authority, he said.
The package is expected to include US mobile rocket launchers, known as Himars, as well as ammunition for the Multiple Rocket Launch System and artillery, sources said.
