Russia is upgrading its navy after the Black Sea skirmish

Vladimir Putin announced that Russia’s industry is working hard to strengthen the country’s Navy, as the Russian fleet suffered heavy losses in the Black Sea off Ukraine. “A lot has been done in this area, as our navy is acquiring new ships,” the Russian president said, adding that it is part of “the overall upgrading of the navy, including its ships, aircraft and coastal components, as well as infrastructure of bases”. Thus, the Russian navy is set to receive more than 40 ships and boats this year, more than the 33 and 24 ships it received in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
