Russia has assembled around 20 tactical battalion groups in Belgorod – a Russian city near the Ukrainian border – and is concerned about the possibility of Ukrainian counterattacks, according to a senior Ukrainian government official.
“According to the General Staff [das forças armadas ucranianas]they are very concerned about our counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region, in the north of the region, to be more precise,” Vadym Denysenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister, told Ukrainian television.
The Russian military, however, has enough strength for another attack in the area, Denysenko said.
The most active battles on Wednesday (11) are further south, the adviser said, “towards Luhansk. In Rubizhne, Severodonetsk”.
He denied an allegation by the Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday that Russian forces had reached the Luhansk border.
The Russians are trying to invade southern Izium to take other parts of the Donetsk region, but there is little movement on the ground. “In the direction of Izium, they do a pretty massive aerial reconnaissance first of all. There is more use of drones than aviation,” Denysenko said.
