For the first time, a fifth-generation 5G cellular network was launched in Russia in the metro. This was announced by the press service of the operator Tele2.
It is reported that Tele2 has already completed the construction of a 5G test network in the Kazan metro and opened it for use by subscribers. The network was built in cooperation with Nokia, peak speeds reach 3800 Mbps. The 5G signal is available at all stations of the Kazan metro.
The owners of smartphones with 5G support, for which the Republic of Tatarstan is their home region, can connect to the network. Users of devices without 5G support or subscribers of other operators can connect to 5G via Wi-Fi routers at the Kremlin station by choosing the Tele2WiFi5G network. At the same time, the traffic is completely unlimited and is not charged.
The 5G pilot zone in the Kazan Metro will operate until the end of 2021.
