Today, January 30, the IXBT news outlet, citing its sources, reported that Avtotor has officially launched mass production of the Chinese Kaiyi E5 sedan in Russia. It is worth noting that more than 100 million rubles of investments had to be spent on the modernization of equipment and production lines necessary for the production of a modern urban sedan from a well-known Chinese brand, after which the plant launched pilot production in December last year. And, probably, the “test” launch of production turned out to be quite effective, so now the serial assembly of this vehicle is being carried out at the plant’s facilities.

However, representatives of the plant clarified that at the moment the serial production of the car is implemented by the SKD method – this is an assembly technology in which the manufacturer supplies individual components, and at the plant’s facilities they are assembled into a car ready for sale. But Avtotor said that the company already plans to switch to a full production cycle in the future, although so far no one is talking about specific dates and deadlines. But the company told when you can expect a new vehicle for sale – the Kaiyi E5 sedan will go to dealerships by the end of the current quarter, that is, approximately until the end of March 2023.
“Avtotor has received the exclusive right to manufacture and distribute Kaiyi brand products in the Russian Federation and a number of CIS countries. The official distributor of Kaiyi is KAI RUS LLC, which will sell cars, spare parts, and service cars in Russia,” the company said.
And although many users may think that Kaiyi is an unknown Chinese brand for them, in fact this is not entirely true. The fact is that the Kaiyi car brand is a subsidiary of the Chinese car giant Chery, which has proven itself in the Russian market and now occupies a leading position in car sales in literally all segments. In addition, in order to occupy its niche in the Russian market, Kaiyi plans not to stop only at the Kaiyi E5 sedan – in the near future the company plans to sell three more urban crossovers in the country.
Unfortunately, at the moment there is no information about the cost and trim levels of the Kaiyi E5, so it’s not even possible to estimate the upcoming sedan at the moment.
