Russia modifies Sputnik-V vaccine to protect against Omicron mutation

The National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology “Gamalei” Russia has already made a modification Sputnik-V vaccine against Omicron mutation, which is in the first phase of clinical trials, as its director said on Tuesday, speaking on the TV channel “Russia 24”.

“At the moment there is no evidence that Omicron will displace the Delta variant. Possibly the vaccine should be on two doses to protect both the Delta strain variant and the Omicron strain variant, “said Alexander Ginsburg, among others.

According to him, the first data on the effectiveness of the Sputnik-V vaccine against the Omicron variant may be available on next week, broadcasts by ΑΠΕ ΜΠΕ.

If the efficacy of the vaccine against this variant is against two with six times lower than against the Uhan strain, then the vaccine formulation will not need to be modified, Ginsburg added.
