Russia: Moskva warship sinks, Defense Ministry admits

The Russian Ministry of Defense revealed in an announcement that the warship Moskva sank in the Black Sea off the south Of Ukraine.

It is not yet clear whether it was hit by Ukrainian missiles as claimed by Kyiv or whether the damage that led to the removal of the crew was caused by an explosion of part of the ammunition on deck, as reported by the Russian side.

The cruiser, one of the most powerful warships in the Russian fleet, suffered extensive damage as it sailed for Sevastopol in the Crimea.

The Moskva was a Slava-class cruiser and the third largest ship in the Russian fleet, and was built in Ukraine during the USSR in 1980. It had a crew of 510 and carried more than a dozen Vulkan anti-ship missiles and a range of anti-submarine and anti-mine weapons.

In fact, it was equipped with a three-level air defense system and in addition to medium and short-range defenses, it could involve six short-range weapons systems (CIWS). At the same time, it could launch 5,000 missiles in one minute, effectively creating a firewall.
