Russia occupies positions in the Ukrainian city of Vovchansk, in the Kharkiv region

Russian forces are consolidating positions inside the Ukrainian border town of Vovchansk in northeastern Ukraine's Kharkiv region and clashes there today are fierce, the local police chief said. The capture of the town, 5km from the border, would be the most significant territorial success since it launched an offensive in the Kharkiv region on Friday, opening a new front and forcing Kiev to send reinforcements. “The situation is extremely difficult. The enemy is occupying positions on the streets of the city of Vovchansk,” Oleksiy Kharkivskyi, the head of the Vovchansk patrol police, said in a Facebook post. The Ukrainian military announced yesterday that its forces had retreated to “more advantageous” positions in two areas in the Kharkiv region, including the Vovchansk region. Source: RES
