United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Russia offered a significant concession in peace negotiations with Ukraine by not “taking the whole country.”
Answering a reporter’s question about what Russia was offering in peace negotiations, Trump replied, “Stop the war.”
“Stop taking the whole country, a very large concession,” said the president during a meeting at the White House Oval Hall with Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Earlier this week, Donald Trump suggested that Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky is delaying negotiations, punctuating that the leader in difficulty “has no letters on his sleeve.”
And after expressing discontent with Russian attacks against the capital Kiev at night, Trump said he still believes Russian President Vladimir Putin takes a peace agreement seriously.
The offensive against the Ukrainian capital has been the deadliest since July 2024. At least 12 people died and 90 were injured, authorities said.
