THE politician his opponent Vladimir PutinIlya Yashin, who belongs to the opposition, was sent to prison for speaking publicly about war crimes committed by the Russian army in Ukraine war.
According to AFP, the Basmani court in Moscow has ordered the arrest of popular Russian opposition politician Ilya Yashin with charge of “deliberate public dissemination of false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”.
Judge Natalia Dudar accepted the interrogation’s request to keep Ilya Yashin in custody until September 12, and rejected the defense lawyer’s request for an alternative sentence, namely house arrest that would not be related to his isolation.

“Don’t be afraid of these bastards, Russia will be free!” the Russian politician shouted in the courtroom after his remand was announced.
Also, Reuters noted that according to Ilya Yashin’s lawyer, Vadim Prokhorov, the reason for his indictment was Yashin’s broadcast on YouTube on April 7, in which spoke about the mass killings in Bucha near Kyiv. Yashin blamed Russian soldiers and showed a BBC video filmed in the city. Russia has denied committing atrocities there and in other areas its forces have seized.
Who is Ilya Yashin?
Yashin – a known opponent of Kremlin strongman Vladimir Putin and an ally of opposition leader Alexei Navalny (who is serving a nine-year prison sentence) – had strongly criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24.
He has already been fined several times for his postings, while he was detained for 15 days for disobedience to the authority.
If convicted, Yasin faces up to 10 years in prison.
It is recalled that the new strict law in Russia requires that the war in Ukraine be characterized as a “special military operation” and that no information concerning the Russian armed forces be made public.
