Russia praised on Tuesday (25) which described as a much more balanced US position on Ukraine after the United Nations Security Council adopted on Monday (24) a resolution prepared by the Americans who took a position on Monday neutral about the conflict.
“We see that the United States are taking a much more balanced position, which really helps efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
He continued to say that they believe “that such a balanced position speaks of a real desire to contribute to an agreement.”
At the UN General Assembly on Monday, the United States were unsuccessfully opposed a resolution requiring Russian withdrawal from Ukraine.
But in the Security Council, they obtained approval of a resolution that asked for peace without giving guilt for the war.
The votes, on the third anniversary of the war, highlighted the dramatic change in Washington’s position since President Donald Trump took office in January.
They exposed divisions that emerged with US allies, such as Britain and France, which abstained from the resolution of the security council supported by Russia and China.
Peskov said Europe has not yet adopted a uniform position, but its posture may change.
“Well, as for Europeans, of course, the statements made of Brussels and so on, including Kiev yesterday, do not yet signal a balance, but perhaps, based on the results of contacts between Europeans and Americans, Europe in some way It will gravitate toward a greater balance, ”he said.
