Russia prefers to meet Ukraine targets through talks, says spokeswoman

Russia will achieve its goal of securing Ukraine’s neutral status and prefers to do so through negotiations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

Moscow’s goals do not include toppling the Kiev government, and Russia hopes to make more significant progress in the next round of talks with Ukraine, Zakharova told a news conference, adding that Russia’s military operation was strictly following its plan.

In addition, Zakharova added that Russia had already received more than 140,000 Ukrainians on its territory since the so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine. According to the United Nations (UN), more than 2 million refugees have left Ukraine so far.

A new ceasefire for the departure of civilians from Ukraine through humanitarian corridors was announced by the Russians on Wednesday (9). Despite the interruption of the attacks since 9:00 am (4:00 GMT) on Wednesday, the Ukrainian Armed Forces issued a statement saying that it was “difficult to trust the occupier”.

In addition to the capital Kiev, humanitarian corridors for people will be in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Mariupol. In Sumy alone, 5,000 people left the city on Tuesday.

Sumy Mayor Oleksandr Lysenko confirmed that civilians in private cars were also leaving the city on Wednesday.
