Russia prohibits Elton John’s foundation activities that fights AIDS and HIV

Russia’s Attorney General forbade Elton John Aids Foundation, the Foundation of AIDS Singer and HIV, accusing her of a negative position on countries such as Russia that protect “traditional spiritual and moral values”.

The prosecutor’s office said that the ban specifically applies to two non -governmental organizations, one recorded in the United States and the other in the United Kingdom, both called “Elton John Aids Foundation.”

Both are officially designated as “undesirable organizations,” he said.

The foundation was created by British singer and composer who, in the past, performed in Russia and spoke out against what he said was unacceptable gay discrimination by the Russian authorities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected such statements.

The Russian leader classified the country as an advocate of “traditional values” arrested in an existential struggle with a decaying West.

Elton John Aids Foundation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“When a musician plays along with the promoters of democracy, you have advertising. And if Elton John is on the piano, it’s not just an anti -russian propaganda,” the prosecution said in a statement on the official Telegram channel.

“NGOs (non -governmental organizations) actively participate in an” collective West “information campaign to discredit traditional values and increase social tensions,” he added.

In a separate statement on the site, the prosecution complained about the promotion of the foundation of “non -traditional sexual relationships, western family models and gender reassignment”.

Without citing examples, the statement also accused the founding of participating in what he called western campaign to “denigrate Russia” by the war in Ukraine, something the prosecution called “special military operation.”

Putin encouraged women to have at least three children to combat the fall in birth rate, and a 2022 law has expanded the ban on “LGBT propaganda” to effectively prohibit any public expressions related to homosexuality.

In November, the Russian Baixa Chamber unanimously voted to ban what authorities have classified as a harmful advertising for a childless lifestyle.

In one Mission Declaration on the SiteElton John Aids Foundation said it raised more than $ 600 million to support more than 3,100 projects in 95 countries globally to increase access to medical care, combat LGBTQ+ stigma and end AIDS.
