Russia has accused Poland of “dangerous escalation in the region” following the expulsion of 45 Russian diplomats from Warsaw on espionage charges.
“Warsaw has made a dangerous escalation in the region, driven not by its national interests but by NATO principles based on open Russophobia which has become an official policy,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
And he promised an answer “that will make the Polish provocateurs think about it and it will be felt”.
Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski announced yesterday that Poland would deport “45 Russian spies posing as diplomats”.
This decision is “a conscious move for the final destruction of the Russian-Polish relations, the dismantling of which our Polish” partners “have been systematically trying for a long time.”
The deportations announced by Poland follow similar measures announced last Friday by the three Baltic states and Bulgaria.
Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia declared a total of 10 Russian diplomats “personæ non gratæ” in solidarity with Ukraine, while Bulgaria deported a similar number of Russian embassy staff to Sofia.
