Russia: “Santa Claus” changed its schedule this year due to the war in Ukraine

THE Russian Santa Claus, theSanta Claus” will reportedly stay away from both Russia’s border with Ukraine and Ukrainian territories annexed by Moscow, on his holiday tour across Russia.

THE Santa Claus will make more than 70 stops between the eastern port city of Vladivostok and St. Petersburg, according to the timetable given by Russian Railways today.

In particular, the western regions of Krasnodar, Rostov, Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk, located on the border with Ukraine, are not included in the program.
Also not included were the annexed territories of Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson.

The train Santa Claus is a tourism project launched by Russian Railways last year together with the northern Russian province of Vologda.

According to the country’s Christmas legend, the Santa Claus he does not live at the North Pole, but near the small town of Veliki Ustyug in Vologda.

This year, Santa started his tour in October, aiming to make all the stops by mid-January.

Due to war in Ukraine, many Russian cities have scaled back their winter festivities. However, in order to maintain normalcy, municipal and regional administrations at the national level keep New Year celebrations, at least on a smaller scale.
