Russia said today it had attacked a training facility in Yavoriv, western Ukraine, adding that the strike had killed “up to 180 foreign mercenaries” and destroyed large quantities of weapons supplied by foreign countries, Reuters reported.
Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a statement that Russia would continue its attacks on foreign mercenaries, as he described them.
Konashenkov said Russia had used high-precision long-range weapons to strike Yavoriv and a separate facility in the village of Staritsi. He said both bases were used to train foreign mercenaries and store weapons.
“As a result of the attack, up to 180 foreign mercenaries were neutralized and a large quantity of foreign weapons was destroyed,” he said.
The attack came a day after Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Moscow considered legitimate shipments of Western arms shipments to Ukraine to be legitimate targets.
Ukrainian regional governor Maksym Kozytskyy said 35 people had been killed and 134 injured in the attack.
