Russia says it analyzes peace initiatives formulated by Brazil

On the eve of the one-year mark of the war in Ukraine, the Russian vice-chancellor said that the country is analyzing the peace initiatives formulated by the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), according to the Tass news agency.

It was also pointed out that Moscow “appreciates Brazil’s balanced position”, citing Lula’s refusal to send ammunition to the conflict.

In an exclusive interview with CNN On February 16, the Brazilian head of state evaluated the invasion as a “historic mistake” by Russia, but pondered that he would not send ammunition to Ukraine, as that would mean that he would be entering the armed conflict.

This occurs at the same time that the United Nations (UN) approved a ceasefire request.

In this document, there is an excerpt inserted by Brazilian diplomacy that speaks, in addition to the truce, of diplomatic negotiations mediated by countries in Western and Eastern Europe in order to find a way to end the war definitively.

This is also one of the few moves the Russian government has made towards diplomatic talks and peace overtures.

Previously, the Kremlin had stressed that it would not negotiate under pressure and that it had no other independent partners with whom it could do that balancing act.
