The Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday that its forces had destroyed a US-made M777 howitzer that it said Ukraine had used to bomb the Russian-controlled Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
In its daily update, the defense ministry said the howitzer was destroyed west of the city of Marganets, in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region.
Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, was seized by Russian forces in March. He remains close to the front lines and has come under repeated fire in recent weeks. Both Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of bombing the facility.
