Russia said Sunday it was “disappointed” by messages from Washington and Brussels on the eve of the talks in Geneva and that the United States insisted on unilateral Russian concessions, Interfax and RIA news agencies reported.
At the same time, Ryabkov told Russian news agencies that “we will not make any concessions. This is completely ruled out.”
Talks between US and Russian diplomats begin in Geneva on Monday after weeks of controversy over the deployment of Russian troops near its border with Ukraine, with veteran envoys on each side trying to avert a crisis.
Interfax quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov as saying that Moscow was not optimistic about the start of talks.
